Job Description: Guest Relations Associate

Guest Relations Associate is an entry-level position with Elsewhere Living Museum that focuses on engaging and supporting our many guests (community members, museum visitors, workshop participants, resident artists). This is a developmental position that is part of Elsewhere’s education program. Participants gain experience in arts administration, museum education, event management, and fabrication skills. There are opportunities for continued employment beyond this period and Elsewhere will aid future job placement by providing professional references and networking assistance. A breadth of additional career resources are available through our partner Guilford Works, an NC Next Gen workforce development program.

Eligibility

In order to apply for this position, you must be 16-24 years old and living in Guilford County. Additionally, your eligibility must be determined by our partner, Guilford Works. Eligibility is based on having one or more of the following barriers to employment: dropped out of high school, low income, criminal background, pregnant or parenting, basic skills deficient, homeless or housing insecure, disabled, foster care, English language learner, needs assistance with finding a career path and future.

Areas of Work

  • Be an ambassador for Elsewhere Living Museum within the Greensboro community and to guests from near and far
  • Welcome visitors and provide them with information concerning prices, daily programs, exhibits and events to help facilitate a great experience and foster repeat visits
  • Sell admission, memberships and event tickets, as well as merchandise
  • Be proactive in growing the membership base by providing information about the benefits and value of membership, completing membership sales, and processing member data
  • Act as Concierge assisting guests with questions or directions, welcoming and assisting event hosts and guests and facilitating their experience – ensuring the safety of guests
  • Participate in cross-training program for other Guest Relations roles including:
    Fabrication Assistant for Resident Artists and Guest Artists, Public Workshop Facilitator, and Tour Guide
  • Perform regular checks to ensure a clean, welcoming, friendly environment for guests, including heightened sanitation to meet COVID-19 regulations.
  • Manage daily monetary transactions and accurately complete closed drawer reconciliation
  • Other indoor and outdoor duties as needed

Compensation

  • $15/hour for 20-25 hours per week, for a total of 280 hours over 7-14 weeks. In some cases, offers will be extended for employment after this term.
  • This is a non-exempt, hourly position.

Additional Information

  • Primary hours are Friday 4-9 PM, Saturday 10 AM-9 PM, with additional flexible hours Tuesday-Thursday between 10 AM-6 PM.
  • The majority of work for this role requires being on-site.
  • All Elsewhere staff participate in weekly communal cooking, building and collection care, and front-of-house duties welcoming and orienting visitors to the museum.
  • Guest Relations Associates report directly to and are supported by the Managing Director. During shifts, they report to the manager on site.
  • Elsewhere’s staff primarily uses Google Workspace, Slack, and Asana.
  • Elsewhere is artist-run and has a radically expansive definition of an artist.
  • Elsewhere is an anti-racist space and organization.
  • Elsewhere participants include fellow staff, artists in residence, interns and youth employees, fellows, alumni artists, guests/visitors, neighbors, partners, volunteers, donors, and funders.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excited, high-energy individuals who are eager to learn and effectively engage a wide range of people of differing ages, identities, and abilities
  • Knowledge of and experience with anti-racist strategies and QTBIPOC communities
  • Interest and experience in any of the following: art, design, customer service, sales, cleaning, education, childcare, fabrication, video production, and social media, 
  • Creative and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Dependable
