June 13 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until June 17, 2019

$40 – $55
$40 WAM members; $55 non-members Register here: https://summer2019_wam_edworkshop.eventbrite.com WHO? Join Maruja Torres-Antonini, Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in UNCG’s Department of Interior Architecture for this exploration into the design process. Using artworks from Weatherspoon’s collection as inspiration, Maru will lead educators through a series of exercises focusing on analysis and synthesis to create a repeatable pattern with myriad design applications. WHEN? Thursday, June 13, 10am-3pm and Monday, June 17, 10am-3pm. There will also be a weekend homework assignment. WHERE? Meet at Weatherspoon Art Museum on the first day. From here we will move to the Interior Architecture Studio in UNCG’s Gatewood Building. WHAT? This workshop will take participants through a deep investigation into the emotive qualities and formal elements of a 2-dimensional work of art. Educators will hone observation skills, research a chosen artist, and learn multiple techniques for analyzing line, shape, color, implied form, and the principles of design. Through this process, we will find the “parti”-the essence or organizing principle behind an individual design. Though our work will be analog, digital applications will also be shared. Teachers will also receive a lesson plan for taking this process into 3-dimensions. Bring your lunch so we can eat together during our break. A certificate of participation will be provided and can be used for CEU credit with the prior approval of your school system. For more information contact Terri Dowell-Dennis at: t_dowell@uncg.edu or 336-256-1449. Free visitor parking available behind the museum via Tate Street. Generous support from the Charlotte W Toler Art Education Endowment enables WAM to keep workshop costs at a nominal rate. Image: Christina Brown, 2017 UNCG Graduate
