Will McBride Group with VCT Radio

January 7 @ 8:00 pm

$12 – $17

Will McBride Group is “where rock, funk, blues, and jazz intersect,” leading to thought-provoking lyrics with clever color-chording and melodic compositions, way beyond average pop songs. Imagine a funkier Steely Dan, a jazzier John Mayer, a more vocal Santana, an edgier Stevie Wonder… you get the picture.

Fronted by Atlanta-bred guitarist/songwriter Will McBride and flanked by ‘the Doctor’, ‘the Magician,’ and ‘the Mayor’, the first of the band’s five albums caught the ear of legendary Triangle radio personality Kitty Kinnin, which led to repeated commercial FM airplay, which led to an opportunity to open for a major touring act, Styx in 2011. Since then, four more albums, opening shows for ZZ Top, Eddie Money, Leon Russell, Mother’s Finest, Delbert McClinton, many more have followed.

Funk on the bottom, jazz on the top, igniting the airwaves across dimensions and time, this NC instrumental trio of Vishnu (keys), Chris (drums), and Troy (lead bass) have become VCT Radio, broadcasting their unique interpretation of funk, rock, soul, and jazz standards along with fresh, thoughtfully funky, highly improvised originals. Any given VCT Radio live playlist might include reworked classics from Ellington, the Beatles, Booker T & the MGs, or more modern surprises like Sade, Alicia Keys, or the Beastie Boys.

But VCT Radio’s originals are where the real magic happens. Launching from groundwork laid down by Medeski Martin and Wood, Herbie Hancock, Stanton Moore, and others, this band has created a wildly entertaining sound all their own, grounded in feel-good funk but shaped by a jam band tradition that’s smart, progressive, and overflowing with improv so that no VCT song is ever the same twice.

The Radio’s members have shared the stage or played with acts such as the Derek Trucks Band, Charlie Hunter, John McLaughlin, and the Temptations, and their absolute passion for the live experience is infectious.

Tickets are $12 in advance; $17 at the door.
Ticket Commission: A $3.20 processing fee and NC Sales Tax per ticket
